Perrysburg Twp. to get Crumbl Cookies

BY ERIC TAUNTON BLADE STAFF WRITER

A popular cookie chain is set to open in Perrysburg Township in the next two months.

Crumbl Cookies will be at 10411 Fremont Pike, Suite C and will open in late spring, said Danielle and Dean McDowell, owners of the new location.

“We’ve construction wrapping up in the next few weeks, and we’ll be starting to hire soon,” Mrs. McDowell said. “We’re looking to hire shift leads, our bakers, and our crew members within the next couple of weeks.”

The McDowells are looking for 50 employees to work at the Perrysburg Township location, they said, with a store manager already in place.

“Employees are the heartbeat of any business,” Mr. McDowell said. “We’re looking for people who are fun and dedicated to customer service. They truly want to make a customer’s day through kind greetings, a smile, and also delivering a high-quality product.”

Employee opportunities will be available on Indeed, Mrs. McDowell said, as well as a hiring event at Way Public Library from 3 to 5:30 p.m. April 12 and again from 1 to 4 p.m. April 14. According to its website, Crumbl Cookies launched five years ago and now has more than 800 stores in all 50 states and Canada.

Township Trustee Gary Britten said new business is always good for the township because it helps lower residents’ taxes.

“It’s a good thing to have diversity,” Mr. Britten said. “Everybody wants to come to Perrysburg for the school district. The housing has really boomed in the last 10 years, and it has taxed the schools and basically the services for the township. Any of these commercial or industrial things that come is an absolute blessing.”

The McDowells said they have always wanted to own their own business.

The couple decided to own a Crumbl because they loved the company’s brand and the product, Mr. McDowell said.

They never pursued an opportunity because their children were younger, and they didn’t think it would work for their family, the couple said.

“Our kids are older now,” Mrs. McDowell said. “We have two in high school and we have a fifth grader. I was at a point where I decided I wanted to do something completely different professionally.”

Mrs. McDowell added that she thinks it would be good for their children to see what it takes to run a business.

The couple was also ready for a change, she said, with her being a school psychologist in northwest Ohio for almost 20 years.

“I’m excited for the journey,” Mr. McDowell said. “It’s what we’ve always wanted to do as a family. We’ve been talking about it for years. We feel like our family is in the right place.”

“We want [customers] to have a fun-filled, joyful experience,” Mrs. McDowell said. “Crumbl’s mission is to bring people together over the world’s best desserts.”
